Despite claims that the T-90M would be totally immune to Javelin anti-tank missiles, it appears that this tank type is still vulnerable to attack.
The appearance of the T-90M Proryv, the most recent Russian tank variant, in Kharkiv, Ukraine on April 25 is noteworthy.
This tank, an updated version of the T-90, is reported to have practically impenetrable armour, causing some to doubt the usefulness of Western countries’ anti-tank missiles like the Javelin and NLAW. Both types of tanks have been delivered to Ukraine since they have destroyed older Russian tank variants.
A T-90M was shot down not long after, possibly by a Javelin missile. The Russian Defense Ministry and the Ukrainian military, on the other hand, have made no comment on this information.
The T-90M Proryv-3, first presented in 2017, is an improved variant of the T-90A main tank, with current features that are not available on the export T-90MS versions. The T-90M Proryv-3 tank now has an automatic target tracking system and a more powerful fire control computer than before, allowing it to engage multiple targets in difficult tactical situations.
The next generation Relikt Reactive Reactive Armor (ERA) on the T-90M Proryv-3 replaces the Kontakt-5 ERA armour on the T-90A series. This armour has the capacity to limit the penetrating capabilities of APFSDS armor-piercing shells by 50% and disable double explosive warheads. In addition, the T-90M Proryv-3 tank’s Shtora-1 passive defence system has been greatly lowered, allowing them to boost their protection in hostile environments.
The T-90M Proryv-3 is equipped with the new 2A46M-4 125mm smoothbore main gun, which has a modern turret, a greater range, and increased accuracy by 15-20%, and can destroy opponent tanks from a distance of up to 5 kilometres.
The T-90M is widely regarded as a “horror” for the Ukrainian army. Despite claims that the T-90M can withstand Javelin or NLAW anti-tank missiles, it appears that it is still vulnerable.
T-90M is not without flaws.
The T-90capacity M’s to survive on the Ukrainian battlefield has yet to be determined.
Five T-90 tanks were destroyed by opposition troops in Syria using regular anti-tank weapons. While not the T-90M variant, many may wonder if the T-90attributes M’s are exaggerated.
The ammo stored inside the turret, which is an excellent target for the Javelin, is perhaps the T-90major M’s flaw. For the same reason, Ukrainian forces are trained to employ Javelin to directly target the front of the tank.
The Javelin is an optically guided infrared missile. The Javelin missile can circumvent the T-90’s defences because its protective system is built to receive laser beams.
