A French VAB armored vehicle that was delivered to Ukraine has been destroyed by the Russian military, and it is known that this armored vehicle was hit by a mine while trying to break through a line controlled by Russian forces.
However, the Russian news site Avia has just reported that a VAB was destroyed while trying to penetrate the line in the Kherson area.
The actual image shows that the VAB armored vehicle was hit by a mine and seriously damaged, the fate of the crew members as well as the soldiers inside is unknown. VAB stands for the phrase “Véhicule de l’Avant Blindé” (Armored battlefield vehicle), developed by the French company Panhard and the Saviem/Renault Group.
This VAB wheeled armored personnel carrier was produced continuously until 1999, it is estimated that more than 5,000 units of 30 versions have been produced.
VAB armor weighs 13 tons, and is 5.98 m long, 2.49 m wide, and 2.06 m high. The vehicle was developed with two configurations, 4×4 and 6×6, the French version provided for Ukraine is 4×4.
To maneuver, VAB is equipped with a 320-horsepower Renault MIDS engine that helps the car run at a maximum speed of 110 km/h, with a range of 1,200 km.
VAB can carry a crew of 2 and 10 fully armed soldiers.
According to the weapon requirements of the ordering party, the VAB can be equipped with different weapon systems, from the 7.62mm AA-52 machine gun, to the 12.7mm M2 Browning machine gun.
