Ukrainian authorities have accused many Russian commandos of having crossed the border and attacked the Sumy region of the country.
In a statement issued on January 21, Dmytro Zhyvytskyi, head of the military administration of Ukraine’s Sumy region, said that many groups of commandos and reconnaissance units of the Russian army crossed the line and attacked the area. this area.
“A group of Russian commandos and reconnaissance continued to cross the border and attack our Sumy region. Yesterday, at about 5 am, a group of five Russian soldiers crossed the Russian border into the region. village of Yunakivka. Our soldiers opened fire and repelled this attack,” Zhyvytskyi said.
On the same day, Zhyvytskyi accused Russia of conducting 115 raids against five areas in Sumy on January 21. These attacks were carried out using howitzers and mortars and caused much damage to the Esmansk, Novoslobidsk, Bilopilsk, Shalyhyne, Krasnopil, and Seredyno-Buda areas.
According to preliminary statistics, at least one 17-year-old man was injured. Many high-rise buildings, private houses, and some civilian infrastructure were hit. Many livestock were also killed after the Russian attack.
The head of the military administration of the Sumy region also revealed that many landmines had exploded along the border area with Russia.
The Sumy region lies on Ukraine’s northern border and was home to more than a million people before the Russian-Ukrainian conflict broke out. After being controlled by the Russian army since the beginning of February, the Ukrainian army recaptured the area on April 8.
