Ukraine claims to have shot down all Russian suicide drones overnight

Ukraine’s Defense Forces announced that they shot down all 24 Russian unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) on the night of January 25.

“Russia resumed attacks on Ukraine with Iranian-made Shahed-136/131 drones on the night of January 25 and early morning of January 26. The UAVs were launched from the eastern shore of the Sea of ​​Azov,” the ministry said. Commander of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine announced on social networks.

According to the Ukrainian announcement, Russian forces launched 24 Shahed drones.

“All 24 UAVs were shot down by anti-aircraft missile units, fighter aircraft, and mobile fire groups of the Ukrainian Air Force in coordination with air defense units of other components of the Ukrainian Self-Defense Forces. lower,” the announcement added.

The Command of the Air Force of Ukraine confirmed that most of the Russian drones were destroyed in the central regions of Ukraine. Meanwhile, the Kiev authorities claimed to have shot down about 15 Russian UAVs over the capital.

“The enemy continued to attack Kiev from the air at night. About 15 enemy UAVs were shot down in the (Ukraine) airspace. Before that there were casualties, but no attacks on facilities. infrastructure,” said Serhii Popko, a military official in the city of Kiev.

The Shahed is a drone that Ukraine and the West accuse Iran of supplying to Russia for use in its wide-ranging raids on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure since early October, but Tehran and Moscow both deny it. cancel. 

The US has long accused Moscow of buying Iranian drones, violating sanctions on Tehran, and then making some modifications to turn them into Russian-made assets and used for military operations in Ukraine. The US also believes that Russia and Iran are cooperating to set up a UAV production facility.

According to Humeniuk, Russian missile warships in the Black Sea are ready to launch missiles at any time into Ukraine.
