Russian officials issue a grim warning to the US

Russia’s foreign ministry charged that the United States had encouraged Ukraine to target nuclear facilities, raising the possibility of outright conflict between the two superpowers.

With the possibility of a direct military confrontation between the two nuclear powers, the United States is essentially waging an all-out hybrid war against Russia, the Russian Foreign Ministry warned in a statement on Feb. In order to have an advantage over the enemy, “hybrid war” is a word used to describe conflict in all domains, including politics, the military, and cyberspace.

Despite not naming specific raids, the ministry accused the US of “assisting Ukraine in carrying out assaults on Russia’s strategic nuclear forces.”

The Engels airbase in Saratov province and Dyagilevo in Ryazan province were attacked by Ukraine using unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), according to a December 2022 statement from the Russian Defense Ministry. Russia operates nuclear-capable strategic bombers from both of these locations.

The New Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (New START), which was signed with the United States, was the subject of a statement from the Russian Foreign Ministry. Last Monday, the US State Department warned Congress that by refusing to allow inspectors to conduct business on its soil, “Russia is not in compliance with the New START deal.” Because of a clause in New START that permits the suspension of inspection activities, Russia contends that this information is untrue.

The United States, according to the Russian Foreign Ministry, was the first to prevent Russian inspectors from carrying out their duties, labelling it “an act that establishes evident unilateral interests” for Washington and compelling Moscow to respond in kind.

The New START pact, which was signed in the early 2010s, is said by Moscow to be founded on the idea that Russia and the United States are equal partners who are working to improve trust and world security through disarmament. However, after the US declared that its objective was “to make Russia strategic failure,” heightening bilateral tensions, the situation altered.

According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, if the United States does not change its “hostile position” and stop its practise of escalating threats to national security, Russia will not make “goodwill gestures” under the New START pact.

The US has not yet responded to the statement from the Russian Foreign Ministry.
