Ukraine enters the conflict with rocket weaponry that is more potent than HIMARS.

The recovered rocket rounds demonstrate that the Ukrainian army most likely used numerous Vilkha-M rocket launchers during the conflict.

According to photographs of a rocket projectile shared on social media in early March, the Ukrainian army has introduced Vilkha-M multiple rocket launchers to the conflict. This is Ukraine’s homegrown rocket artillery, which is reportedly more potent than the US-supported HIMARS.

The Vilkha-M multiple rocket launcher, an upgrade to the Soviet-made BM-30 Smerch complex, has a range of up to 130km and a warhead weight of up to 220kg. This parameter, which has an 80km range and a 90kg warhead, is superior to the “fire god” HIMARS. Ukrainian engineers will work to make improvements in the near future to extend the 150km range of Vilkha-M rocket artillery.

Vilkha-M, which is mounted on a KrAZ-7634 truck chassis, has 12 launchers and is capable of firing 12 rounds in 48 seconds. These rockets inject fuel using “gas rudders” that have numerous tiny holes in them. The GPS locator and distinctive design improve the Vilkha-M rocket launcher’s accuracy.

Ivan Vinnyk, the first vice president of the Ukrainian Military Industries Association, claims that Vilkha-M is a key component of the country’s artillery force. These rockets will help the Ukrainian army, in particular, in its offensive counteroffensive operation to retake lost ground. Even Ukrainian artillery can use Vilkha-range M’s to attack targets within Russian territory.

The confrontation between Russia and Ukraine has demonstrated how crucial long-range weapon systems are. This kind of weapon not only aids in striking crucial targets with accuracy and effectiveness, but also saps the enemy’s life energy and depletes their willpower. Also, when assaulting from a distance, this weapon provides a secure perimeter to safeguard the lives of soldiers.

The Ukrainian military has regularly planned attacks against Russia’s supply channels in the South since receiving HIMARS, isolating pro-Moscow forces in the area.

Oleksiy Reznikov, the defense minister of Ukraine, claimed that HIMARS is enhancing Ukraine’s ability to cope with Russia quite well. He did add, though, that for Ukraine to flip the battlefield, approximately 50 of these complexes are required. The Ukrainian army may be able to make up for this weakness with the introduction of the Vilkha-M complex into battle.
