Fighting heats up, and Russia sends missiles to attack the “second Bakhmut” stronghold

The Russian army is putting all its efforts into quickly controlling Avdiivka, a fortress known as the “second Bakhmut” in eastern Ukraine.

In a notice posted on his personal Telegram page on April 1, Andrii Yermak, head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, said that the fighting situation in the area of Avdiivka city in the east of the country is developing. increasingly stressful.

Yermak accused the Russian military of having begun conducting missile strikes against the city of Avdiivka with the aim of draining Ukraine’s defense forces.

“The enemy conducted a missile raid on the city of Avdiivka. At least two missiles were used. The first missile hit an administrative building and the second missile hit an office building. civil infrastructure in this city. People entered the bunker in time. Therefore, human casualties have not been recorded yet, “said Mr. Yermak.

Observers say this is a tactic used by Moscow in Bakhmut when Kh-555 cruise missiles and improved S-300 air defense missiles have been continuously poured down on the Ukrainian army’s defenses.

The missile raids are expected by Russia to put pressure on Ukraine’s defense forces while isolating target cities by blocking the way for external reinforcements.

Recently, the Russian military has continuously organized attacks on the Avdiivka and Vuhledar regions in eastern Ukraine. The acquisition of one of these two strategic objectives would put pressure on the entire Ukrainian defense in the Donbas, thereby directly threatening the Kyiv stronghold of Bakhmut.

However, these attacks were not effective as many Russian soldiers and equipment were removed from the fighting ring in the battles with Ukraine.

Intelligence agency under the British Ministry of Defense in late March revealed that the 10th Tank Regiment of the Russian army had suffered heavy damage on the Avdiivka front when “a large part” of its tanks had been destroyed. destroyed or seized. The regiment is part of the 3rd Army Group, a new force created last August to take part in Russia’s special military operation in Ukraine.

Earlier, the British Ministry of Defense said that the 3rd Army is made up of “volunteer divisions”, which gather volunteers across Russia ready to fight in Ukraine. As a rule, an army group in the Russian army consists of between 15,000 and 20,000 soldiers.

The Russian Defense Ministry has not yet commented on the information.
