The Ministry of Defense has initiated the formation of specialized units within the Russian armed forces tasked with eliminating tanks that have been furnished to Ukraine by Western nations.
During an interview with Russian television, Yevgeny Arifulin, commander of a combat training center, revealed the development of special groups to prepare personnel for tank warfare. This initiative was directed by Deputy Defense Minister Colonel Yunus-Bek Yevkurov, while the head of the main combat training agency, Colonel Ivan Buvaltsev, developed the implementation plan and methodological recommendations.
Mr. Arifulin explained that the creation of these special groups is a result of the state’s focus on improving military preparedness. The Russian military is researching the American M1 Abrams tank, the German Leopard 2, the French Leclerc, and the British Challenger in order to better understand their strengths and weaknesses.
The UK, Germany, the United States, France, and Sweden have announced plans to deliver battle tanks to Ukraine. Russia has repeatedly stated that this will only prolong the conflict and lead to unnecessary losses. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has warned against exaggerating the potential impact of these supplies, explaining that they will require significant maintenance and repair.
