Chinese President Xi Jinping conveyed his felicitations to Russian President Vladimir Putin on his re-election victory on March 18, emphasizing China’s commitment to bolstering ties with Russia. Xi highlighted the significance of Putin’s re-election as a testament to the unwavering support of the Russian populace.

Furthermore, Xi reiterated China’s dedication to nurturing the China-Russia relationship, expressing Beijing’s readiness to uphold frequent communication with Moscow to advance their comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership.

Meanwhile, on the same day, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lam Kiem affirmed China’s acknowledgment of Russia’s election outcome during a routine press briefing. Kiem expressed confidence in Putin’s collaboration with Chinese leadership to propel the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between the two nations forward.

Official Russian election data, released on March 18 by the RIA News Agency, indicated Putin’s landslide victory with 87.33% of the total votes, based on results from 99% of polling stations.

“Lam emphasized that China and Russia, as prominent neighbors and key comprehensive strategic partners in the modern era, share a deeply significant relationship. He expressed unwavering confidence in the continuous advancement of Russia-China ties under the strategic leadership of Presidents Xi Jinping and Vladimir Putin.

Earlier, on March 17, following preliminary indications of his resounding victory in the presidential election, President Putin remarked on the strengthening trajectory of Russia-China relations in the forthcoming years. Putin underscored the stabilizing role of the bilateral relationship, accentuating the positive personal rapport between the two leaders as a catalyst for further growth. He stressed the alignment of interests between Russia and China, fostering a conducive environment for addressing shared objectives on the global stage.

Although not formal allies, Russia and China are striving for an “unlimited” partnership, as reported by SCMP newspaper. Notably, China has emerged as Russia’s primary energy purchaser, supplanting European nations, while Russia is increasingly reliant on Chinese imports.”
