Iran lists retaliation, warns of flattening any target in Israel

Iran warned of stronger attacks if Israel decides to respond to Tehran’s missile attack earlier last week.

Iranian media reported over the weekend that Iran has prepared a plan to respond to a potential Israeli attack.

“The necessary response plan for a possible Zionist action has been fully prepared. If Israel takes action, Iran will definitely respond,” Tasnim news agency quoted a source in Iran’s armed forces as saying on October 6.

The source stressed that Iran “has a list of many Israeli targets” and said Tehran’s attack on October 1 “showed that Iran can level any place it wants”.

Iran fired about 200 missiles at Israel on the night of October 1. Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said the attack was in retaliation for the deaths of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah and Iranian general Abbas Nilforoushan in an Israeli airstrike on September 27 in Beirut, Lebanon.

Israel confirmed that its air defense system shot down most of the Iranian missiles, some air bases were damaged, but not significantly and did not affect the combat capability of the Israeli Air Force.

Following Tehran’s attack, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel “has the right and duty” to respond to Iran’s attack.

In April, Iran fired about 300 missiles and drones at Israel in retaliation for an Israeli airstrike that killed several Iranian generals at the consulate in Damascus, Syria.

At that time, Tel Aviv responded quite limitedly, causing no significant damage to Tehran. However, according to analysts, this time Israel will respond more strongly.

Israel is reportedly considering attacking Iran’s strategic infrastructure, such as oil and gas facilities or nuclear facilities. US President Joe Biden said last week that Washington supports Tel Aviv striking Iran’s energy infrastructure, but does not support targeting its nuclear infrastructure.

Amid the threat of Israeli attacks on oil and gas facilities, Iranian Oil Minister Mohsen Paknejad yesterday visited an oil facility on Kharg Island and met with employees.

“We are not afraid that the other side will cause a crisis. This is just a normal business trip,” Minister Paknejad emphasized.

Iran is one of the world’s 10 largest oil producers. Kharg Island, located in the Gulf, is home to Iran’s largest crude oil export port.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi warned that Iran would retaliate even more strongly if Israel attacked.

“If the enemy makes a mistake, we will target all their energy sources, infrastructure, refineries and gas fields,” Ali Fadavi, deputy commander of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), said on October 4.

The tit-for-tat attacks between Israel and Iran have raised concerns about a wider conflict in the Middle East and an oil supply crisis. The international community has called on all sides to exercise restraint and engage in dialogue.
