Iran Unveils Zoubin Missile System, Rivals Israel’s Iron Dome

Iran has introduced the “Zoubin,” a cutting-edge air defense missile system that represents a significant advancement in its homegrown defense capabilities. Often referred to as the “Iranian Iron Dome,” the Zoubin is engineered to effectively target a variety of low-altitude aerial threats that are becoming more common in contemporary conflicts. Deployed around Tehran and other key locations, the system is designed to enhance Iran’s defense against various threats, including drones, loitering munitions, cruise missiles, artillery shells, and low-flying aircraft. This launch underscores Iran’s determination to develop independent air defense technologies amid escalating tensions and the risk of aerial attacks.

The Iranian military has unveiled the Zoubin air defense missile system, a highly mobile unit mounted on a 6×6 truck chassis, designed for rapid repositioning in response to evolving threats. Featuring a comprehensive 360-degree interception capability, the Zoubin provides extensive coverage to defend against a range of aerial attacks. According to the Iranian defense sector, the system’s advanced radar can track up to 100 targets simultaneously within a 30 km range and engage threats within 20 km.Each Zoubin unit is outfitted with a vertical-launch canister that holds up to eight missiles, enabling it to address multiple threats concurrently—a vital asset in countering complex coordinated assaults.

This system is specifically engineered to tackle various modern threats, particularly swarming drones and loitering munitions that are increasingly employed for both surveillance and attacks. Its multi-target tracking and quick-response capabilities make it well-suited for intercepting such aerial tactics. The Zoubin also stands ready to confront cruise missiles, which pose significant risks due to their low-altitude flight and high-speed approach. Its sophisticated radar and vertical-launch technology are geared to detect and neutralize these missiles before they can reach critical targets. Additionally, the system is capable of targeting helicopters and low-flying fighter jets that often try to evade detection by flying at reduced altitudes, making it an effective counter to traditional air threats. Moreover, the Zoubin is equipped to intercept artillery shells and long-range munitions, adding an essential layer of protection for urban and fortified areas from precision-guided attacks.

This capability is crucial in defending against the close-range assaults that adversaries might attempt. The development of the Zoubin underscores Iran’s strategic focus on addressing the latest challenges posed by low-altitude and precision aerial threats. Drawing on technology and expertise gained from the long-range Bavar-373 system, its mobile design ensures quick deployment and adaptability. Deployed strategically around Tehran, the Zoubin reflects Iran’s commitment to safeguarding critical sites from modern threats. As a key component of Iran’s multi-layered air defense strategy, the Zoubin enhances the nation’s overall aerial protection. Its advanced tracking, modular design, and rapid engagement capabilities signify a significant step forward in Iran’s defense landscape, demonstrating the country’s ongoing dedication to strengthening its defensive autonomy against increasingly sophisticated threats in the region.
