Russia Plans to Strike German Arms Factory in Ukraine

The Kremlin has announced that the weapons factory of the German firm Rheinmetall in Ukraine is now considered a “legitimate target for attack” by Moscow.

In a press interview on October 29, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that the Rheinmetall factory, a prominent German arms manufacturer recently opened in Ukraine, is definitely a legitimate target for Russian military action. In response, Rheinmetall noted that this is not the first time Russia has made such threats, emphasizing that its operations in Ukraine are adequately protected.

In July, Rheinmetall announced plans to establish four factories in Ukraine. CEO Armin Papperger stated in Ukrainian media that the first facility aims to begin mass production of Lynx infantry fighting vehicles by the end of this year. Papperger also mentioned the upcoming opening of a second plant, along with plans for a gunpowder factory, a tank ammunition production facility, and a site for air defense systems. In late July, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Andrei Nastasin warned that if Rheinmetall proceeded with these developments, the factories would be considered legitimate targets for Moscow.

Moscow has consistently criticized Western involvement in the conflict, claiming that support for Kyiv primarily benefits military-industrial companies while burdening taxpayers in the United States and the European Union.
