According to some sources, Iran may attack Israel tomorrow, August 5.
The US and Israel are continuing to prepare for a major Iranian attack in retaliation for the assassination of Hamas and Hezbollah leaders late last month. The attack is expected to begin in a few hours, meaning tomorrow, August 5, according to Axios .
The Iranian attack would follow a similar pattern to that in April, when Tehran launched a retaliatory strike against Israel in response to Israel’s alleged bombing of its consulate in Syria. That attack involved hundreds of drones and missiles, but Israel claimed that the damage was minimal.
However, it is not ruled out that an imminent Iranian attack will be larger in scale and involve Hezbollah forces in Lebanon.
Tehran and Hezbollah are finalizing plans that must be approved at the highest political level, the source said.
Two unnamed US officials said today that General Michael Kurilla, head of US Central Command, arrived in the region on a pre-planned visit.
The visit is said to focus on efforts to mobilize a broad regional and international coalition to protect Israel from an attack like the one in April when the US, Britain, Jordan and France joined forces to intercept Iranian weapons.
Tensions in the Middle East have reached a fever pitch in recent days, after Iran accused Israel of assassinating Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh in a bombing in Tehran on July 31.
While Israel neither confirmed nor denied involvement in the assassination of the Hamas leader in Iran, it admitted to an airstrike that killed Hezbollah leader Fouad Shukr in Beirut, Lebanon. Israel blamed Fouad Shukr for the recent attack on a soccer stadium in the Golan Heights that killed 12 children.
Amid escalating tensions, the US is increasing its military presence in the Middle East, ready to deal with any possible scenario to protect its ally Israel.
