Syrian media reports indicate that Israel conducted airstrikes on military sites in central and southern Syria, asserting that several missiles were intercepted.

According to a military source cited by the Syrian news agency SANA, Israel launched a series of airstrikes at 2:00 a.m. today, firing missiles from the Golan Heights and Lebanese territory at military bases in central and southern Syria. The source noted that Syrian air defenses successfully intercepted several of the incoming missiles, and officials are currently evaluating the extent of the damage caused by the strikes. Reports from Syrian media indicated multiple explosions occurred in the capital, Damascus, as well as in the western city of Homs.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) has not yet responded to these reports. Earlier on October 26, the IDF announced it conducted a “precision strike” on a military target in Iran, citing Tehran’s recent operations as the reason. It remains uncertain if this action is connected to the raid in Syria.
Since the onset of the Syrian conflict in 2011, the Israeli military has executed hundreds of airstrikes, primarily targeting pro-Iranian militias, including Hezbollah, while also occasionally striking Syrian government positions.

Israeli officials seldom comment on the strikes in Syria; however, they consistently assert that they will not permit Iran, described as an “arch-enemy,” to expand its influence in the region. The frequency of Israeli airstrikes in Syria has surged since the onset of the Gaza conflict in early October 2023.
On October 24, Syrian media reported that Tel Aviv targeted the capital, Damascus, and a military site near Homs, resulting in the death of one Syrian soldier.
